The impressive appearance of a new £20m residential scheme in Anstruther was made possible with unique render solutions provided by Wetherby Building Systems.

Located in the coastal town of Cellardyke, near Anstuther, Silverdykes is a luxury housing development from Muir Homes and includes over 300 newly constructed residential homes situated in and around interconnecting carriageways. Nestled within beautiful, scenic surroundings, the development boasts a wide range of homes including two-bedroom apartments, two and three bedroom bungalows and three, four and five-bedroom villas.

All of the properties have been constructed using traditional building methods and, with a strong commitment to environmental principles, Muir Homes has ensured the use of sustainable and energy efficient materials wherever possible. This includes advanced internal insulation, energy efficient boilers, low energy lighting and automatic solar thermal panels that generate hot water.

It was important to Muir Homes that the visual appearance of the properties matched the elite standards of the build and the developer was particularly keen to ensure the scheme was aesthetically pleasing to neighbouring residents. As a result, the exterior facades were designed using a mixture of stone and sandstone, but Muir Homes was looking for a way to enhance and lift the appearance further.

After consultation with Wetherby, it was agreed that render solutions would be utilised to break up some of the stone façades and provide feature panels in contrasting shades. Each property type was designed differently to give it an individual identity, with some homes purely of stone appearance, some a combination of stone and render and others featuring fully rendered elevations.

In addition to the design criteria, a durable finish was also required due to the development being in a coastal region. As a result, Wetherby’s Silicone  1.5mm ‘K’ render was specified, with cream and salmon shades used. While some properties benefitted from fully rendered elevations, others were merely  lifted with render detailing, in contrasting shades around windows, doors and garages.

Commenting on the development, David Burns, Wetherby’s technical sales manager for Scotland, said: “Muir Homes had very clear ideas on the way they wanted this development to look and we came up with a solution that enabled them to fulfil their design aspirations. The final result is an absolutely stunning development that is not only visually appealing, but that offers a hardwearing, low maintenance finish that will stand the test of time.”
