Recycle, Re-Manufacture, Re-Use!

The latest figures for one of Wetherby’s insulation waste schemes shows that an astonishing amount of insulation has avoided landfill.

Wetherby Building Systems Ltd, along with S and B EPS Ltd have worked together to develop an innovative waste recycle scheme for their Epsitherm graphite enhanced, expanded polystyrene.

Waste material on construction sites in UK is a major problem yet since insulation has to be cut to size to fit around openings, waste is inevitable.

Between January and June 2014 an astonishing 3900m³ of Epsitherm Insulation was reclaimed and since it is 100% recyclable, has been reused in the manufacture of new EPS products. That’s basically 48 artic vehicles full of waste in just 6 months!

Administrated and monitored by the S&B EPS team, the scheme is implemented on multiple sites with many of Wetherby’s recognised contractors, helping them to ease towards their zero-waste-to-landfill targets while reducing the amount of EPS going to landfill.

The aim of the scheme is to deliver and monitor a cost effective and environmentally friendly scheme whilst allowing Wetherby to recycle uncontaminated off-cuts of Epsitherm.

Paul Banks, Technical Director at S and B EPS Ltd says “It has been great to watch this scheme grow, showing the commitment of all involved to help protect our environment.”
