Narrow Cavity Properties

Properties with Narrow Cavity Walls

Many houses were constructed using brick/block and with a narrow cavity when heating costs and carbon emissions were a low priority.

Filling the cavity will achieve some thermal gain, but in most cases not bring the property within the building regulations for thermal transmittance.

External wall insulation can easily be installed to these properties and the same theories for heat gain and thermal mass apply as per solid walls.

The cavity will actually improve the thermal properties, so in most cases a thinner insulant than would be required on a solid wall can be used to meet building regulations. Wetherby Technical staff are happy to provide calculations to prove that the correct thickness of the specified insulant will achieve the required U-value.

Externally the same choice of high quality finishes, textures and colours are available to give the property a new lease of life.
