Aspire Housing

Aspire Housing create neighbourhoods where people want to live by developing, improving and managing affordable quality housing for rent, shared ownership and sale. A 30 year plan is in place for improving housing stock and at the end of March 2010 99% of Aspire Housing stock met the Decent Homes Standard.

As part of this plan external wall insulation was specified to not only give the properties on this Kidsgrove estate a facelift but also to give the residents warmer homes with cheaper heating bills. The client was keen to maintain the overall appearance of the properties in keeping with the existing owner occupied properties and a Wetherby Insulated System incorporating 50mm Phenolic insulation was the ideal choice.

50mm Phenolic insulation was mechanically fixed to the brick structures followed by a basecoat. A layer of Polymer Dashing Mortar was then applied at a thickness of 8-10mm and whilst this was still wet, a decorative dashing aggregate was thrown into the mortar to give a fresh, durable finish.

Brickslip features were incorporated into the design to give a traditional appearance and some of the properties were finished with a decorative Wetherby GRP Canopy.
