The most deprived area in England gets the Wetherby treatment!

By: Rachael Doyle   •   April 5, 2013

Jaywick

Jaywick is a small seaside village near Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. It was originally built in the 1930’s and was intended as a holiday resort for Londoners. Many of the houses were poorly constructed with little or no thought given to insulation, since they were only intended for short-term holiday use. As time passed, more and more people moved into the area and stayed.

Many of the holiday homes are now permanent residences and in a state of disrepair. According to the Indices of Deprivation 2010 (which ranks 32,482 areas in order of deprivation), part of the village is ranked

Commenting on today’s first Green Deal statistics publication, Energy and Climate Change Secretary Edward Davey said:

“We’re seeing clear signs of a promising new market gathering momentum. In little more than a month, there have been 1,803 Green Deal assessments and that shows genuine interest from consumers. Some householders in older properties, and those on benefits or low incomes may qualify for extra financial assistance from the new Energy Company Obligation, and this has also started really well with £26.9 million worth of contracts signed”.

“We have created the Green Deal to overhaul our inefficient housing stock and help

Wetherby transform non-traditional homes for One Vision Housing

By: Rachael Doyle   •   February 21, 2013

One Vision Housing is a social housing provider managing over 11,000 homes in Sefton, Liverpool.

Their Litherland BISF properties are a post-war prefabricated steel framed structure, produced by the British Iron and Steel Federation. These properties were not only unattractive, but are also extremely difficult to heat due to the poor thermal properties of the structure.

Wetherby Building Systems partnered with One Vision Housing to refurbish the BISF homes. One Vision Housing needed to not only improve the poor insulation and thermal inefficiency of its BISF properties but also give them a modern new facelift. Tackling the relatively

UK SME contractors urged to ‘up-skill or miss out’ on jobs

By: Rachael Doyle   •   February 15, 2013

Following on from Green Deal’s official launch last month, small and medium sized construction businesses are being urged to research the skills and accreditations needed to work under the Green Deal and ECO, since those who are not adequately prepared or qualified could potentially miss out on some lucrative job opportunities.

CITB – Construction Skills published a report earlier this month which stated that there were 60,000 job losses and a 9% fall in construction output in 2012. Sadly, it seems unlikely that the situation will improve in 2013.

Up-skilling will be vital to the success of government initiatives such
