Manchester £400m Green Deal wins for trio

Three contractors have been signed up to deliver the Green Deal in Greater Manchester to 60,000 homes.
Keepmoat, Wates Living and Willmott Dixon Services will deliver energy-efficiency retrofits to 60,000 households over the next five years, Manchester Council has confirmed.

The deal, agreed through the Greater Manchester Green Deal Delivery Partnership, is expected to create 1,000 jobs and will begin in April 2014. The value of the works was not revealed but the council had sought firms for a deal worth up to £400m when it went out to the market in May 2013.

Keepmoat group sustainability director Nigel Banks told Construction News: “We believe that improving the energy-efficiency of Britain’s housing stock should be seen as a key national infrastructure priority.”

He added: “The Greater Manchester Green Deal Delivery Partnership will retrofit properties with energy-efficiency measures so people can afford to heat their home properly and reduce their energy bills.

“Keepmoat is delighted to be part of the partnership as it builds on the work we have done retrofitting properties as part of Warm Homes Oldham, which is on track to lift 1,000 people out of fuel poverty in its first year.

“Over the past 10 years Keepmoat has made 350,000 homes warmer through insulation or energy-efficiency measures, saving residents more than £160m on energy bills.”
