Labour release green paper on energy efficiency intentions

Caroline-FlintLabour have today published a Green Paper, setting out what the party intends to do with the Energy Efficiency Policy if it gets into Government. The contents of the paper are very much in line with the comments made by Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Caroline Flint MP at the Labour Party Conference in Manchester in September.
The 6 key actions identified are:

  • To provide 0.5 million personalised home energy reports a year, detailing how households could save money on their energy bills through insulation and energy efficiency.
  • Free energy efficient improvements for 200,000 households who are currently in or deemed at risk of fuel poverty a year, with an ambition to upgrade all such homes within 15 years, saving the average household over £270 a year.
  • Interest free loans to cover the costs of energy efficiency improvements for up to one million households during the next Parliament.
  • A new target to upgrade properties in the private rented sector to a minimum of an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) C by 2027.
  • Energy efficiency designated as a national infrastructure priority under Labour’s proposed National Infrastructure Commission.
  • Streamlined regulations and a long-term strategy to support investment in energy efficiency in non-domestic buildings.

The National Insulation Association has stated that it will consider the details of the Green Paper over the coming weeks and will,  on behalf of the Solid Wall Insulation industry, respond to the questions contained within.
