Wetherby supports Cold Homes Week!
Today marks the start of Cold Homes Week, an initiative designed to call on political parties to commit to ending the UK’s cold homes crisis, and Wetherby is giving its full backing to the campaign.
The Energy Bill Revolution, an alliance of charities, trade unions, businesses and consumer groups all committed to ensuring warmer homes and lower energy bills for all, is behind the campaign to raise awareness of the cold homes crisis.
On average, 25,000 people die of the cold each year and at least a third of these deaths are due to living in cold homes. One of the main causes is that the UK’s homes are some of the least energy efficient in Europe – leaking heat from their doors, walls and windows.
The Energy Bill Revolution believes there is a solution to enable the UK to have warm homes, reduce fuel bills and cut carbon emissions and is calling for the government to launch a much more ambitious home energy efficiency programme to make all UK homes super energy efficient, prioritising the homes of the fuel poor.
A crucial campaign, we are helping to spread the message and raise awareness of the cold homes crisis this week and urge others to do the same – if we shout loud enough, the government will need to listen.
