Wetherby invests £200,000 in environmental initiatives!

Wetherby Building Systems, the leading provider of solid wall insulation, is expecting to see its carbon footprint reduced by at least 40% following an investment of more than £200,000 in new environmental initiatives over the last 12 months.

Autumn statement – energy & the environment

Following yesterday’s announcements – the NIA have released a schedule of the main points raised, relating to energy efficiency:

As well as higher wages and pensions, and lower taxes, the government is implementing a package of measures to reduce the projected cost of green policies on the average annual household energy bill by £30 from 2017. The bulk of these savings will come from reforms to the current Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. ECO replacement MUST protect vunerable homeowners!

On the day George Osborne delivered the Autumn Statement, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) released the winter mortality figures for 2014 / 2015, which sadly made for very grim reading.

More than 43,000 excess winter deaths occurred in 2014 / 2015, the highest number in 15 years, with 27% more people dying in winter months compared to non-winter months. One of the greatest concerns was that the majority of these deaths occurred in people over the age of 75, with cold homes a key factor in the cause of deaths.

Government ‘must do more to help vulnerable households this winter’

Poor insulation and high energy prices mean many people will be cold, says Age UK – and support is inadequate.

The government must take “urgent action” to protect older homeowners from the potentially deadly consequences of living in a cold home, a report given exclusively to The Observer claims.



One person – generally elderly – will die every seven minutes from cold-related diseases this winter, according to charity Age UK. “Only the government can change this and we call on it to act,” says director Caroline Abrahams ahead of the charity’s Campaign for Warm Homes, which kicks off
