Wetherby Building Systems
Limited were recently approached by researchers at
the BBC and asked to participate in a Children in Need DIY-SOS TV
special. With the project being based in Anglesey (just an hour away
from their office in Golborne), they were of course delighted to have
been asked to be involved.
In this particular series, Nick Knowles and the team attempted to
re-house a dad and his four growing children who had spent the last
four years living in a caravan located at the bottom of the garden
of their one bedroom house. After a succession of disasters they had
been left living in unsuitable conditions and simply had no money
to sort it out. This was the team's biggest build yet and they
had less than two weeks to build a three bedroom
extension from the foundations upwards and to renovate the entire
house - inside and out.
Initially, Wetherby were asked to supply a stand alone render system
for the outside of the extension walls. However, after extensive
talks with the production team, it was agreed that the thermal benefits
that an insulated render system would offer, would be far
more beneficial to Joe and his family, as it would significantly
reduce the amount of energy he'd required to keep his home warm.
With the help of RW Hough & Sons (who are a WBS approved applicator
carrying out a significant amount of EWI work in North Wales) the
project progressed at breakneck speed with the entire insulation
system having been fully installed in just under 4 days.
The project was a fantastic success and Joe's family were absolutely
delighted with the results.
