PANABLOK / WBS THROUGH-WALL SYSTEM

THE SYSTEM
Following a very successful, prestigious contract in Manchester (see below) where a WBS system was applied to Panablock pre-formed structural panels, WBS have since formed an strategic alliance with Panablock and have jointly devised a brand new through-wall solution which will offer significant reductions in design, on-site time and overall project costs.

PANABLOK
Panablok is a tried and tested innovative, versatile, prefabricated structural building system that provides a cost effective solution to architects, developers and contractors who are looking to produce high quality buildings, reduce building schedules, meet targets and significantly save costs.

The storey-high Panablok wall panel system is an ideal alternative to conventional brick and blockwork, steel or timber frame construction. Additional to its speed of build, Panablok combines excellent structural qualities, insulation values and air-tightness properties.

THE PANEL
A Panablok panel is comprised of two skins of cement-particle board with a rigid cell urethane core. Embedded in the core there are two secondary structural studs, the whole creating a composite structural unit. The panels incorporate tongue and grooved edges with integral closure mechanisms also embedded into the urethane core. As the closure mechanisms operate they draw adjacent panels together forming a laterally-stable, airtight connection.

CONSTRUCTION
Individual Panablok panels are connected together with the closing/locking mechanisms and fixed into a base channel. This channel is anchored down to the concrete raft, plank, beam & block or suspended floor.

When erected the wall panels are capped with and fixed into an inverted channel onto which the next floor or roof structure is installed.

Door and window openings can be cut on site (at any time), and frames easily fixed to the panels using brackets provided.

It is at this point that the WBS INSULATED RENDER SYSTEM is applied, which could be finished with either a silicone / acrylic render
or for a more traditional finish, brick slips can be securely fixed to exterior of the system.

Panablok can be built in either single or double skin construction as the structure for buildings up to three stories.

It can also be used in conjunction with steel or
concrete frames for multi-storey applications, as infill panel or as a base for rain screen or cladding applications.

SPEED OF BUILD
The main advantage Panablok offers the developer and contractor is its speed of build. Panablok can reduce construction time for the inner leaf by up to 75% and can reduce the overall construction time by up to 40%.

Major time and cost reductions are achieved because Panablok takes brickwork off the critical path. Panablok panels rapidly create a weathertight envelope which, unlike traditional blockwork construction methods, does not require the outer leaf to be built at the same time.

Panablok is a dry assembled system and can be erected in all weathers. Once the upper levels and roof structure are in place internal work can get underway with brick work completed when weather allows - substantially minimising building time and costs.

Not only can speed of build reduce construction costs significantly but it provides enhanced revenue benefits gained through early occupancy of the building.
