Aylesbury Vale, Buckinghamshire

The Aylesbury Vale scheme, is a £23m project funded by Buckinghamshire County Council, designed to improve the energy efficiency of the Aylesbury Vale Academy, a Church of England academy.

Wetherby was selected as a preferred partner following a tender process and granted the contract. This was a unique scheme as the EWI installed was 270mm thick, 210mm wider than the 60mm usually specified. The project aimed to create a passive building, with high levels of insulation and exceptional air tightness, using passive solar gains through windows, walls and floors.

The school building stores and distributes solar energy in winter and is cool in the summer. Gavin Jaggard, Technical Sales Manager at Wetherby, said:“Buckinghamshire County Council has committed to an exciting and interesting energy efficient project. This is the future of education contracts. The installation of EWI means Aylesbury Vale will benefit from lower energy bills, higher heat efficiency and a lower carbon footprint.”

C G Reynolds, the Birmingham-based building subcontractor, chose Wetherby as their preferred EWI supplier. The finishing U-value of the building is expected to be 0.14 as a result of the 270mm CP board, finished with a 1.5mm white silicone finish.
