SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel Systems) have been evolving in the USA, Scandinavia, Japan and Canada for over 50 years. SIPS panels were first introduced to the UK in the 1970’s and are now a well established alternative to traditional building methods.
SIPS panels incorporate a high performance insulation which has oriented strand board (OSB) and/or cement particle board fixed to both sides, to produce an energy efficient, fast track building component.
Manufactured with CNC precision, SIPS panels can be designed to realise the most modern architectural and complex designs.
When it comes to being sympathetic to the environment, SIPS panels rate second to none.
Unlike traditional timber framed building systems, SIPS panels offer a strong yet light and flexible building solution that reduces air movement and leakage and in turn lowers excess energy consumption and CO² emissions. The fact that they are factory produced, results in minimal site wastage and reduced on-site time.
In addition, OSB board is made from sustainable harvest spruce which is carefully managed and uses up to 35% less raw timber than traditional timber framed buildings. All this and the ability to achieve U-values as low as 0.22 W/m²K really does explain why this method is becoming so popular
in the UK.
When it comes to external finishes, WBS have a range of systems ideal for use with SIP panels, that can be used on both insulated or render-only systems. The unrivalled range of final finishes, textures and colours can be either hand or machine applied to give the external façade a professional, seamless finish.
