Over half of the UK’s 26 million homes are inadequately insulated. The government’s Green Deal and ECO initiatives give us a huge opportunity to improve their energy efficiency, save on fuel bills and cut carbon emissions.
ECO:
The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is set to replace CERT and CESP and is designed to work with Green Deal to provide additional funding for the fuel poor and to drive more expensive measures such as External Wall Insulation. Wetherby are already working with a number of Utility Companies and are in a position to offer direct or indirect ECO funding for suitable projects.
GREEN DEAL:
Simply explained, the Green Deal allows you to borrow up to £10,000 for home improvements to reduce your energy consumption. As most heating escapes through walls, installing external wall insulation (EWI) is one of the key insulation measures that will help save on energy bills.
Green Deal repayments, made over 25 years, are simply added to your fuel bill. The Golden Rule is that the repayments can’t exceed the amount of savings you make as a result of the improvements. You can enjoy a warmer, more economical home and, as the loan is attached to the electric meter of the home, it passes on to the new bill payer if you move home.
